Meet Intel’s New 730 Series SSD

<div style="background-color: white; color: #5f6d80; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 23.310400009155273px;">
The <a href="http://www.intel.com/" style="color: #0092dd;" target="_blank" title="Intel">Intel</a> Corporation knows both the technical and commercial value of SSD’s and has a selection to choose from.  One of the frontrunners is the <a href="http://www.intel.co.uk/content/www/uk/en/solid-state-drives/solid-state-drives-730-series.html" style="color: #0092dd;" target="_blank" title="730 Series SSD">Intel 730 Series</a>.  This was introduced to market a couple of months ago in February 2014.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #5f6d80; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 23.310400009155273px;">
The drive was aimed squarely at professionals and enthusiasts, as it is a high-performance consumer SSD. This SSD was in contrast to recent drives that have taken to employing SandForce controllers with Intel’s firmware.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #5f6d80; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 23.310400009155273px;">
So this time, Intel went back to using its own controller and firmware and the drive specifies its own NAND flash, here 20nm MLC. Intel says that up to 70 GB of writes per day for the 480 GB capacity models can be accomplished, this suggests a total writespan of 127 TB.   The firm is confident of the product’s endurance that they have offered a 5-year warranty.</div>

<div style="background-color: white; color: #5f6d80; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 23.310400009155273px;">
Intel doesn’t specify any RAM cache details, it is understood though that the larger of the two available models at 480 GB uses 512 MB of DDR3 DRAM memory.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #5f6d80; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 23.310400009155273px;">
Intel’s figures of the internal power consumption are 5.5 W when active and 1.5 W while idle.  Because of this power consumption, it is suggested this SSD would not be a great choice for laptops wanting a decent battery life.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #5f6d80; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 23.310400009155273px;">
The performance of this drive in uncomplicated sequential runs, will comfortably reach the SATA Revision 3.0 limit, achieving 559 MB/s for reads and 507 MB/s for writes.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #5f6d80; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 23.310400009155273px;">
So, with a good warranty, datacentre-class integrity and top-tier performance this SSD form Intel is hitting all the right notes. The drive gives an enormous data-write ceiling which is needless to say, very impressive.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #5f6d80; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 23.310400009155273px;">
The 730 Series is an expensive drive at £363 but if you want speed at the SATA limit and a formal guarantee from the manufacturer of long endurance, this Intel SSD will give you both.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #5f6d80; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 23.310400009155273px;">

Samsung Galaxy Alpha Looks An Awful Lot Like The iPhone‏

<div style="background-color: white; color: #5f6d80; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 23.310400009155273px;">
Samsung is nearing the launch of the Galaxy Alpha, the new high-end smartphone sitting just under the Galaxy S5. Rumors say it will arrive at the same time as the Galaxy Note 4, at IFA 2014, but others believe the smartphone will be announced before the event in Berlin.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 23.310400009155273px;">
<span style="color: #5f6d80;">Whatever the case, the Galaxy Alpha has been </span><span style="color: #5f6d80;">leaked enough times to get a good look at the design. If anyone thought Samsung was moving away from the Apple-like design, they were sadly wrong, with the Galaxy Alpha looking an awful lot like the iPhone 5S.</span></div>

<div style="background-color: white; color: #5f6d80; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 23.310400009155273px;">
The metal accents look strikingly similar to the iPhone 5S, thankfully the front and the back make up for it. The camera is placed in the center, instead of the on the left like on the iPhone 5S. Samsung has also done a good job of trimming the bezels on the front of the device.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #5f6d80; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 23.310400009155273px;">
Samsung will add the same physical home button, alongside two capacitive keys, on the front of the Galaxy Alpha. The phone will not feature a fingerprint sensor like the Galaxy S5, nor will we see the heart-rate sensor on the back of the device.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #5f6d80; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 23.310400009155273px;">
Specifications peg the Galaxy Alpha a bit below the power of the Galaxy S5. The 1280 x 720 resolution display is not the best, although for a mid-range price we could see it working. The Galaxy Alpha does feature a 12MP camera and Exynos 5433, one of the most powerful chips on the market.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #5f6d80; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 23.310400009155273px;">
If Samsung manages to drop the price of the Galaxy Alpha down to something reasonable, we could see this being a contender for one of the best phones on the market. The design certainly steps up from the Galaxy S5 and the only downside appears to be the 720p display.</div>

Nokia Lumia 635 Review

<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
Budget doesn't need to be a dirty word. Just look at the Nokia Lumia 635, which costs just $168 on T-Mobile (without a contract) and offers a vivid display, snappy performance and more than eight hours of battery life. Some concessions had to be made for the low price, including a missing front camera and rear flash. But in the tug-of-war between value and functionality, shoppers win with this smartphone.</div>
<h4 style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-size: inherit; line-height: 15px; text-align: center;"><u>Design</u></span></h4>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
<img alt="Nokia Lumia 635" border="0" height="300" pxz:uid="1230fe1f75b-1" src="http://www.laptopmag.com/images/uploads/ppress/44723/Nokia-Lumia-635-sf.jpg" style="border: 0px; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; vertical-align: middle;" width="675" /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
It's a budget phone and it shows. The majority of the Lumia 635 is wrapped in a white plastic shell. It's not pretty, but it's functional, offering a sure grip. When I passed the phone around to fellow staffers, one remarked that the back felt more like a case than a traditional rear panel.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
This was especially true when it came time to pop the rear cover and get a look at the battery and microSD slot. Removing the back involved wedging a fingernail between the side of the phone and the shell and gently disengaging the cover by pushing it off the top of the phone. The first time I attempted to remove the back, I was scared I was going to crack the screen, but it came off without a hitch.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
Overall, the 635 is a bare-bones operation in terms of design. Instead of an elaborate rear-camera setup like the Lumia 928, Icon and 1020, there's just the simple 5-megapixel camera lens. An unassuming gray Nokia emblem runs down the center with a small circle cut out in the bottom right corner for the speaker.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
<span class="img_enlarge" style="cursor: pointer; float: right; height: 98px; margin: 20px 0px 20px 20px; position: relative; width: 152px;"><img alt="Nokia Lumia 635" src="http://www.laptopmag.com/images/uploads/ppress/44723/thumbs/Nokia-Lumia-635-G09.jpg" style="border: 1px solid rgb(205, 205, 205); height: 96px; width: 150px;" /><span class="click-to-enlarge-icon" style="background: url(http://www.laptopmag.com/r/images/click-to-enlarge.png) no-repeat transparent; bottom: 0px; display: inline-block; height: 30px; left: 0px; position: absolute; width: 30px;"></span></span>The volume rocker and power buttons sit on the right, but there's a notable omission versus other Windows Phones -- the camera button. I was a little put off at first, but my Lumia 928 is full of dark or blurry pics from those times the button accidentally depressed in my pocket.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
I was a little annoyed to discover that Nokia placed the Back, Home and Search buttons in the actual display area instead of below the screen. I prefer dedicated buttons. The front area is also missing a camera, so selfie and video chatters will have to resort to other means to get their fix.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
Measuring 5.09 x 2.62 x 0.36 inches and weighing 4.72 ounces, the Lumia 635 is slightly thicker and heavier than budget Android phones such as the Alcatel One Touch Fierce (5.13 x 2.64 x 0.35 inches, 4.7 ounces), but sleeker than the Alcatel One Touch Evolve (4.78 x 2.52 x 0.46 inches, 4.8 ounces).</div>
<h3 style="-webkit-margin-after: 0px; -webkit-margin-before: 0px; background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: inherit; line-height: 15px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
Display</h3>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
<span class="img_enlarge" style="cursor: pointer; float: right; height: 98px; margin: 20px 0px 20px 20px; position: relative; width: 152px;"><img alt="Nokia Lumia 635" src="http://www.laptopmag.com/images/uploads/ppress/44723/thumbs/color-gamut-nokia.jpg" style="border: 1px solid rgb(205, 205, 205); height: 96px; width: 150px;" /><span class="click-to-enlarge-icon" style="background: url(http://www.laptopmag.com/r/images/click-to-enlarge.png) no-repeat transparent; bottom: 0px; display: inline-block; height: 30px; left: 0px; position: absolute; width: 30px;"></span></span>I have to hand it to Nokia; they really know how to deliver a good display, even on a budget phone. Colors on the 4.5-inch panel were impressive. While watching the X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer on the 635, Mystique's cobalt-blue skin looked particularly alluring as she dispatched a few guards with her lithe movements and sharp kicks.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
However, the display's low 854 x 480-pixel resolution obfuscated the pattern of Professor X's tweed jacket, as well as the ridges in Wolverine's bone claws. The viewing angles weren't as wide as I'd like, either.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
The Lumia 635's screen averaged 292 lux on our brightness test, which is well below the 433 lux smartphone average and the Fierce (327 lux). However, the Nokia topped the Evolve's 271 lux.</div>
<h3 style="-webkit-margin-after: 0px; -webkit-margin-before: 0px; background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: inherit; line-height: 15px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
Audio</h3>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
Sometimes you get what you pay for, and in this case, it's a lackluster audio experience. Although it cranked out 80 decibels on the Laptop Mag Audio test--on a par with the smartphone average--the 635's single speaker failed to fill the small office I used as a test space.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
When I listened to Pharrell's "Come Get It Babe," the artist's voice had a hint of distortion at maximum volume that worsened when the background vocals came in. The usually clear snaps and snares were so quiet they were practically nonexistent.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">

<h3 style="-webkit-margin-after: 0px; -webkit-margin-before: 0px; background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: inherit; line-height: 15px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
Windows Phone 8.1 OS</h3>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">

The update adds several useful features that borrow heavily from Android and iOS, but they're welcome enhancements just the same.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
For example, Windows Phone users finally get an omnipresent status bar that sits at the top of the display, showing time, Wi-Fi and battery life. If you swipe down, you'll access Microsoft's Action Center, which is basically a notifications shade and quick settings menu in one.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
<span class="img_enlarge" style="cursor: pointer; float: right; height: 98px; margin: 20px 0px 20px 20px; position: relative; width: 152px;"><img alt="Nokia Lumia 635" src="http://www.laptopmag.com/images/uploads/ppress/44723/thumbs/notifications.jpg" style="border: 1px solid rgb(205, 205, 205); height: 96px; width: 150px;" /><span class="click-to-enlarge-icon" style="background: url(http://www.laptopmag.com/r/images/click-to-enlarge.png) no-repeat transparent; bottom: 0px; display: inline-block; height: 30px; left: 0px; position: absolute; width: 30px;"></span></span>You can customize the Action Center shortcuts in the Settings menu, swapping them out for items such as airplane mode, location and rotation lock. I applaud Microsoft for jumping on the convenience convoy, but I wish there were more than four options available at once.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
Long-pressing the Back button still displays all your currently open apps. In another nod to convenience and modernity, swiping down let me close out a program instead of making me repeatedly hit the back button to exit everything.</div>
<h3 style="-webkit-margin-after: 0px; -webkit-margin-before: 0px; background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: inherit; line-height: 15px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
Keyboard</h3>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
Swype, is that you? Microsoft has finally added the word-tracing software Windows Phone so desperately needed. The aptly named Word Flow works well in practice, producing a thick blue line as I dragged my finger from letter to letter. The word prediction was fairly accurate, too, suggesting most of the words I was attempting to type (or swipe) before I had a chance to finish.</div>
<h3 style="-webkit-margin-after: 0px; -webkit-margin-before: 0px; background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: inherit; line-height: 15px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
Cortana</h3>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
<span class="img_enlarge" style="cursor: pointer; float: right; height: 98px; margin: 20px 0px 20px 20px; position: relative; width: 152px;"><img alt="Nokia Lumia 635" src="http://www.laptopmag.com/images/uploads/ppress/44723/thumbs/Cortana.jpg" style="border: 1px solid rgb(205, 205, 205); height: 96px; width: 150px;" /><span class="click-to-enlarge-icon" style="background: url(http://www.laptopmag.com/r/images/click-to-enlarge.png) no-repeat transparent; bottom: 0px; display: inline-block; height: 30px; left: 0px; position: absolute; width: 30px;"></span></span>Microsoft has also entered the digital assistant arena to play up the company's gamer/geek cred. Microsoft has dubbed its assistant Cortana, after the Halo series' well-known AI character, going so far as to recruit the voice actress to record some of the responses.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
There is just something thrilling about hearing Cortana from the Halo series answer my questions. It definitely has a sense of humor. When I asked where Master Chief was, Cortana said that it hopes Master Chief is getting some rest and relaxation since "he HAS saved the galaxy three or four times."</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
Cortana answered more mundane questions, such as who is the U.S. secretary of state and who won the Mets game, quickly and correctly. However, questions about making a proper Manhattan or who is Emmett Till were met with silence and Bing Search.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
I successfully used Cortana to navigate to a friend's house in Brooklyn. She pulled up directions from HERE maps, which provided driving, public transit and walking directions.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
</div>
<h3 style="-webkit-margin-after: 0px; -webkit-margin-before: 0px; background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: inherit; line-height: 15px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
App Store</h3>

The biggest hurdle Microsoft has to overcome is its relatively small app store. To date, the Windows Store offers approximately 240,000 apps, which is a drop in the bucket compared with the 1 million-plus apps each featured in the Apple Apps Store and Google Play.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
While the number of apps is problematic, the quality of apps is definitely troubling. The Windows Store is still missing such popular apps as Snapchat and YouTube. The Instagram app, while available, is still in beta, and daters looking to swipe their way to true love will have to make do without Tinder.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
Still, Microsoft has made some progress, adding Facebook Messenger, Uber, Roku, Vine and WhatsApp to its catalog.</div>

Music lovers will want to check out MixRadio, Nokia's version of Slacker. The app offers several mixes created from global music experts, or you can listen to stations based on a particular artist. You can also download mixes for offline listening.</div>

Running a 1.2-GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 GPU with 512MB of RAM, the Nokia Lumia 635 is deceptively powerful. I found swiping around the home screen and opening apps to be fairly swift. Surfing was nearly seamless; I encountered a few instances where the page lagged behind my finger.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
I took some laps in Asphalt 8 to test the Lumia 635's gaming performance. The performance was smooth for the most part, but the loose tilt controls forced me to tilt the phone at extreme angles to keep from crashing.</div>

On the WP Bench benchmark, which measures overall performance, the phone scored 262.26. That's significantly higher than Nokia Lumia 531 and its 1-GHz dual-core Snapdragon CPU, which notched 178.08.</div>

A shot I took of red roses and pink lilies had deep, vivid color, while a photo of golden sunflowers looked rather pallid. Don't expect much detail. ISO, shutter speed and white balance are just a few of the settings that can be tweaked. The company was thoughtful enough to include a tutorial for newbies.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
One of my favorite apps, the gif-tastic Nokia Cinemagraph, is also on the Lumia 635. The app takes a few seconds of video and lets you choose which parts are still and which parts are animated. Creative Studio is Nokia's answer to Instagram, providing photogs with eight filters to trick out their photos. Now your food pics can have that quaint, antique look.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">

The app is positively made for selfies, automatically smoothing out skin tones and removing unsightly blemishes. You can take the beautification process even further with the editing tools that allow you to enlarge/shrink your eyes, widen your smile and even slim down your face.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
There's a catch. In the absence of a front camera, you have to rely on the rear shooter to take your selfie. Glam Me solves this dilemma by adding an auto-selfie mode that detects when your face is in front of the camera. Once your face is in range, the phone emits a series of beeps to let you know it's OK to take the photo. I got a few good shots, but I'd prefer a front camera to check out my pose beforehand.</div>
<h3 style="-webkit-margin-after: 0px; -webkit-margin-before: 0px; background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: inherit; line-height: 15px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
Battery Life</h3>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
The Nokia Lumia 635's 1830 mAH battery lasts a long, long time. Over the course of an 8-hour day, I watched video, browsed the Web, snapped and edited a few photos, and the 635 still had about 30 percent battery life.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
The phone lasted over 9 hours on the Laptop Mag battery test (continuous Web surfing over 4G LTE), easily beating the 7:43 smartphone average. The Alcatel One Touch Fierce gave out at 6:33 and the Alcatel One Touch Evolve quit at 4:17.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
Due to an errant pop-up during the test, the display was dimmer than the 50 percent setting we were going to use. We will rerun the test and update the review the review.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
</div>
<h3 style="-webkit-margin-after: 0px; -webkit-margin-before: 0px; background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: inherit; line-height: 15px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
Wi-Fi Calling</h3>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
Like most carriers, T-Mobile's coverage can be spotty in some areas. To combat this, the provider offers Wi-Fi Calling on the Lumia 635. This allows users to send and receive calls over Wi-Fi instead of using your calling plan.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
When I used Wi-Fi to dial one of my co-workers, voices were crystal clear on both ends. However, as I moved farther away from my router, I could hear a small bell signaling that the call was in danger of being dropped.</div>
<h3 style="-webkit-margin-after: 0px; -webkit-margin-before: 0px; background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: inherit; line-height: 15px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
Bottom Line</h3>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
<span class="img_enlarge" style="cursor: pointer; float: right; height: 98px; margin: 20px 0px 20px 20px; position: relative; width: 152px;"><img alt="Nokia Lumia 635" src="http://www.laptopmag.com/images/uploads/ppress/44723/thumbs/Nokia-Lumia-635-G02.jpg" style="border: 1px solid rgb(205, 205, 205); height: 96px; width: 150px;" /><span class="click-to-enlarge-icon" style="background: url(http://www.laptopmag.com/r/images/click-to-enlarge.png) no-repeat transparent; bottom: 0px; display: inline-block; height: 30px; left: 0px; position: absolute; width: 30px;"></span></span>No, you don't get a front camera or flash on the back, but the $168 Nokia Lumia 635 is a solid choice for the price. This Windows Phone delivers smooth performance, long battery life and a surprisingly lovely display. The 5-MP camera isn't great, but Nokia's suite of camera apps helps make the best of it.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 10px;">
Prefer Android to Windows Phone? Shoppers should check out the $150 Alcatel One Touch Fierce, which is slimmer and lighter than the Lumia with a brighter display. You'll also benefit from a much bigger app selection. But if you're willing to take Microsoft's user-friendly and fun interface for a spin, the Lumia 635 will satisfy.</div>

The main thing because of which it will be notable will be its Display. A new IPS Display has been endorsed which provide the users Live Color. A technology that is known to provide the widest color display in market. Which is even better the Apple’s best iPhone and iPad display. When watched and used the display looks very much attractive and support with a good contrast and color fidelity, which the older version of Sony Xperia Z2 misses.</div>

These were all the new upgrades made on the new Sony Xperia Z2. Let us talk on the two addition camera feature that is the SteadyShot feature and the TimeShift feature. The SteadyShot feature that initially belongs to the Sony Handycams are now being introduced in their smartphones too. This feature is based on image stabilization that promises to reduce the jitter and imperfection that are result of the unsteady video. Secondly the TimeShift features allow you to shoot 720p video at 120fps and then slow it down to a very reasonable rate or how much slow you want the video. More over the things that are kept same in Xperia Z2 is its front and back glass body and the camera. The color range for this phone is not provided as much it could only be available in black, white and purple color.</div>

The LG G2 was one of the few mobiles or should I say the rare mobiles that had super thin bezel and a body that was to die for. But it’s time to pass on the legacy. LG has done it again in the LG G3. LG has made the phone with a 5.5” QHD screen in a body that’s barely bigger than its competitors. Pretty smooth right?</div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
LG has repeated the trick it did last year to launch its product before other new devices to gain technological advantage. And wait till you see the complete details of the phone. But wait a second, why wait? I’ve got everything for you right hear.</div>

<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
As seen above, LG G3 is the first phone (or phablet from that matter) that hits the QHD resolution mark. This may sound a bit too much, but LG says that it takes the phone sharpness and quality up a notch.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.thenerdmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/lg-g3-design.png" style="color: #4db2ec; text-decoration: none !important;"><img alt="lg g3 design LG G3: The eclectic Design with seamless Power" class="aligncenter wp-image-9464" height="581" src="http://www.thenerdmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/lg-g3-design.png" style="border: 0px; clear: both; display: block; height: auto; margin: 6px auto; max-width: 100%; text-align: center; vertical-align: middle;" title="LG G3: The eclectic Design with seamless Power" width="593" /></a></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
Without further a due, we will now look at the design and build quality:</div>
<h2 style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: 'PT Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 36px; line-height: 42px; margin: 25px 0px 27px; text-align: justify; text-rendering: optimizelegibility;">
<strong>Design and build quality:</strong></h2>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
LG has become one of the few companies that is not compromising on the build and design quality of the phone. The LG G3 has yet again proved the legacy of the company. To be honest, the phone impressed greatly as how does it fit a screen so large in a body that is relatively compact. This is being said because 5.5” devices have been relatively ample larger than the LG G3.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
Due to the fact mentioned above, the screen does not have much on its front. There is just a trivial panel of plastic with fleecy metal finish below the screen and a small silver of black for the earpiece and sensor assortment above the screen.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
The screen itself is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, while the back and sides are made by a scratch-resistant polycarbonate.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.thenerdmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/lg-g3-front.jpg" style="color: #4db2ec; text-decoration: none !important;"><img alt="lg g3 front LG G3: The eclectic Design with seamless Power" class="aligncenter wp-image-9467" height="445" src="http://www.thenerdmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/lg-g3-front.jpg" style="border: 0px; clear: both; display: block; height: auto; margin: 6px auto; max-width: 100%; text-align: center; vertical-align: middle;" title="LG G3: The eclectic Design with seamless Power" width="593" /></a></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
Another approach re-used by LG is to have all the hardware buttons on the back, the power and volume rocker below the camera.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
The new thing we saw on the LG G3 is the polycarbonate plastic used at the back of the phone. The plastic looks very metal, but being plastic it does feel a lot like plastic.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.thenerdmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/lg-g3-back.jpg" style="color: #4db2ec; text-decoration: none !important;"><img alt="lg g3 back LG G3: The eclectic Design with seamless Power" class="aligncenter wp-image-9466" height="445" src="http://www.thenerdmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/lg-g3-back.jpg" style="border: 0px; clear: both; display: block; height: auto; margin: 6px auto; max-width: 100%; text-align: center; vertical-align: middle;" title="LG G3: The eclectic Design with seamless Power" width="593" /></a></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
There isn’t any room for the speakers upfront, as the phone is designed as compact as possible. Due to this, LG decided to fit the speaker at the back of the phone. The company has used a powerful speaker which is rated 1W of sound. But the boost features enhances it up to 1.5W. And believe me, the sound experience is brilliant and it cannot be much better.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
The LG G3 has been powered by a 3000mAh battery, which not only works on its own, but also works with a number of battery saving software integrated with the phone. The battery is also replaceable and an advantage to those who carry a spare.</div>
<h2 style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: 'PT Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 36px; line-height: 42px; margin: 25px 0px 27px; text-align: justify; text-rendering: optimizelegibility;">
<strong>Display:</strong></h2>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
For LG G3, the company has obviously worked on those blueprints and made a spectacular piece. At 5.5” the True-HD IPS+ display goes beyond the direct competitors and even the phablets like the Galaxy Note 3. As a fact, G3 covers 76.4% of the front by screen.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.thenerdmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/lg-g3-display-qhd.jpg" style="color: #4db2ec; text-decoration: none !important;"><img alt="lg g3 display qhd LG G3: The eclectic Design with seamless Power" class="aligncenter wp-image-9470" height="790" src="http://www.thenerdmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/lg-g3-display-qhd.jpg" style="border: 0px; clear: both; display: block; height: auto; margin: 6px auto; max-width: 100%; text-align: center; vertical-align: middle;" title="LG G3: The eclectic Design with seamless Power" width="593" /></a></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
The basic idea of LG was to introduce a screen that matches the print quality of magazines and art books. Because of this, the company decided to go with the QHD resolution and 534 ppi pixel density.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.thenerdmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/lg-g3-display.jpg" style="color: #4db2ec; text-decoration: none !important;"><img alt="lg g3 display LG G3: The eclectic Design with seamless Power" class="aligncenter wp-image-9469" height="790" src="http://www.thenerdmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/lg-g3-display.jpg" style="border: 0px; clear: both; display: block; height: auto; margin: 6px auto; max-width: 100%; text-align: center; vertical-align: middle;" title="LG G3: The eclectic Design with seamless Power" width="593" /></a></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
Now you would think that with greater resolution the phone would also consume more battery. But that’s not the case here. The controller used in the screen consumes the same amount of battery as that of the controller of 1080p resolutions. Also the upgrade has changed the production process and the good news is that the digitizer would keep working even if the screen is cracked badly.</div>
<h2 style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: 'PT Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 36px; line-height: 42px; margin: 25px 0px 27px; text-align: justify; text-rendering: optimizelegibility;">
<strong>Software Features:</strong></h2>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
LG has applied its own software changes and has bettered the overall usage and design of the user interface. LG is predominantly proud of how mature the colors and icons of the interface feel. LG G3 Quick Circle feature enables you to enjoy the handset even with case on.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.thenerdmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/lg-g3-software.jpg" style="color: #4db2ec; text-decoration: none !important;"><img alt="lg g3 software LG G3: The eclectic Design with seamless Power" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-9471" height="340" src="http://www.thenerdmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/lg-g3-software.jpg" style="border: 0px; clear: both; display: block; height: auto; margin: 6px auto; max-width: 100%; text-align: center; vertical-align: middle;" title="LG G3: The eclectic Design with seamless Power" width="635" /></a></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
The LG G3 also features Knock On (tap to wake), which is swiftly growing in popularity among users. Knock Code allows you to make this unlock method secure by designing your own sequence of three to eight taps (there are 80,000 deviations).</div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
There are other parts of the LG’s Smart Security. The second type, Content Lock hides sensitive files and photos, so you don’t have to worry about offering your G3 to a friend. This feature works for files in the internal memory and on the microSD card, it will even block access to the files if you hook up the LG G3 to a computer using 128-bit encryption. Pretty cool, right?</div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
Kill Switch is the third security feature. It allows you to remotely disable the phone and in case you can’t recover it, delete all the data on it. What makes Kill Switch different from Android Device Manager is that it also performs antivirus scans (the Google Play Store already has a similar feature).</div>
<h2 style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: 'PT Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 36px; line-height: 42px; margin: 25px 0px 27px; text-align: justify; text-rendering: optimizelegibility;">
<strong>Camera features and Samples:</strong></h2>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
The LG G3 has a 13MP camera with a number of unique features. While the resolution and sensor size are the same as on the G2, LG claims it has enhanced light sensitivity. The camera features optical image stabilization too, OIS+ like on the LG G Pro 2. It’s more valuable this year since the competition has left this one out.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
The front facing camera shoots 2.1MP but according to LG it has a faster lens and bigger pixels than the main camera. As most of you know what a selfie is, LG has worked particularly on that. The camera offers much better result in low light and are even enhanced by the screen, using as a flash just with the right amount of tone and light.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.thenerdmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/lg-g3-camera.jpg" style="color: #4db2ec; text-decoration: none !important;"><img alt="lg g3 camera LG G3: The eclectic Design with seamless Power" class="aligncenter  wp-image-9472" height="339" src="http://www.thenerdmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/lg-g3-camera.jpg" style="border: 0px; clear: both; display: block; height: auto; margin: 6px auto; max-width: 100%; text-align: center; vertical-align: middle;" title="LG G3: The eclectic Design with seamless Power" width="602" /></a></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
In the video department of the phone, the LG G3 camera records 2160p video. LG takes on Nokia here by focusing on an often ignored part of video recording – audio. The LG G3 features several mics, which monitor ambient noise levels and tune the sound accordingly to ensure good audio even in a loud environment.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
<strong>Conclusion:</strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">
The LG G3 is a splendid phone. Ranging from the specifications, to the design and build quality and to every other thing we have discussed, the phone has not been less impressive than its predecessor.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 23px; text-align: justify;">

LG G3: The eclectic Design with seamless Power

The LG G2 was one of the few mobiles or should I say the rare mobiles that had super thin bezel and a body that was to die for. But it...
