Apple MacBook Pro Receives Upgrade

As Apple’s product landscape is fluid at the best of times, it is easy to miss when some of their products get a subtle revamp.  For the more discerning Apple fan, it is prudent to keep an eye on the Apple Store to see if any changes occur.   Some watchers has noticed the company’s online site took a brief hiatus yesterday morning, and when it came back on again something wonderful had occurred; revised models of the 13″ and 15″ MacBook Pro.

The new models are now shipped with faster Intel Haswell processors and have a unified floor on RAM capacity (8 GB for the 13″ models, 16 GB for the 15″ models).  This had previously dropped to 4 and 8 GB respectively for the “budget” configurations.

The default processor speeds on the 13″ model changed from 2.4/2.6 GHz i5 dual-core processors up to 2.6/2.8 GHz; BTO options for the 13″ include a 3.0 GHz dual-core i7 chip. For the 15″ model, both standard configurations have received a similar clock bump to their i7 quad-core CPUs (2.0/2.3 up to 2.2/2.5), with the fastest BTO processor now 2.8 GHz. The price of the higher-end configuration of the 15″ has also dropped $100 to $2499.  This is also the case for the non-Retina 13″ MBP (from $1199 to $1099).

These updates should be available for immediate shipping.  What happens if you have just purchased a Retina MacBook Pro in the past 2 weeks in an Apple Store?  Don’t panic! You can return it for the newer model.
